Young Guns take top spots at Club Champs

It was our fresh-faced next generation green and golds who stormed their way to the top of the podium at this year’s fully (and finally) unrestricted Club Championships 2022.

Retaining the men’s title was our super speedy Tom Sursham, completing the two-lap course (just under 10k) in 34.39 . Martin Crozier and Jimmy Hill gave us an epic sprint finish, with Martin just pipping Jimmy to the post in a time of 35.23.

Our female contingent had one lap of just over 5k (3.3 miles) to contend with. Lightning Lily Robson has been going from strength to strength, comfortably coming in first for the ladies in 21.25. But our v40s showed us they are a force to be reckoned with. After bagging herself a 42m29s 10k just two days before, there were no tired legs for the phenomenal Kirsty Fearn, who came in second in 21.50. Emily James was five seconds behind, running close to a 5k pb.

It was a great turn out from our Hawks and Juniors, with over 20 running the mile-long route (just under) down Rheydt Avenue. The ever-awesome Joseph Duthie took a comfortable lead and finished in a fantastic 5.04. Kasper Pearson was second in 5.21 and Charlotte Hodgson was third in 6.29.

Full results are here.

Well done to all who took part and huge thanks to everyone who came out and supported, marshalled and organised. The event would just not happen without you.
