Walker Wonderland in Winter Opener

The season opening Winter Grand Prix got off to a flyer at Cobalt tonight.

Our juniors were out in force making up 14 of the 44 competitors at the start line, on a perfect night for running. They certainly let their presence be known at the sharp end of the results, taking the top 2 spots, with 5 overall in the top 10.

However there could be only one winner and young Elena tore round the 5k course to finish in 27:42 (23:02 actual), 30 seconds ahead of her closest rival.

? 27:42 – Elena Walker
? 28:12 – Beth George
? 28:20 – Paul James

Despite much moaning and maligning throughout the day, an ‘unmotivated’ (that’s being kind) Jennifer Berry was our Leading Lady on the night in an actual time of 19:24, which is also a huge PB.

However the spotlight once again was stolen by our legend in the making, Sam Charlton; not to be undone by the gargantuan efforts of Kipchoge and Kosgei over the weekend, he took 28 seconds off his own course record in an astonishing 14:52.

Full results are available here.

Thank you to all who took part, whether it was your first run with us or your umpteenth GP race – you all make this the amazing club that it is.

The next Grand Prix race will be on Tuesday November the 12th, further info on the Winter Grand Prix series can be found here.

Last but by no means least, a HUGE shout out and thank you to all our volunteers who paced, directed, cheered and officiated – without you there is no event – your time and sacrifice is appreciated by everybody! ??
