Next phase of return to club coaching

Following on from our update on Covid-19 guidance for runners, we are now pleased to announce the next phase in our return to coaching.

What has happened since last week?

As a club we have completed two trial coaching sessions to ensure we are fully prepared to offer socially distanced training sessions. This has proved very successful and as a coaching team we had a meeting on 18 June 2020 to agree the next steps.

How will my coach be in contact and assess risks?

Coaches will be using a ‘Doodle Poll’ platform to ensure we limit training to five athletes. Your coach will make sure you have every opportunity to join a session. We will do our best to ensure everyone has the chance to train over the coming weeks and will share a guide on how to use the Doodle Poll. Please do not turn up to a session without being in contact with your coach.

Coaches will be completing risk assessments, and part of reducing risk will be to ask athletes to stick to the 2m guidance while static and 10m when running. It is everyone’s responsibility to be sensible and stick to these guidelines.

Rules that we all need to follow during socially distanced club sessions:

  1. All athletes will have to confirm they have read our Covid-19 guidance (parents will be responsible for anyone under 18).
  2. All sessions for all groups and ages will be limited to one coach and five athletes in line with current EA guidance.
  3. Coaches will be using a ‘Doodle Poll’ platform to ensure we limit training to five athletes (we will do our best to ensure everyone has the chance to train over the coming weeks). Please do not turn up without being in touch with your coach.
  4. Coaches will be completing risk assessments and part of reducing risk will be to ask athletes to stick to the 2m guidance while static and 10m when running. It is everyone’s responsibility to be sensible and stick to these guidelines.
  5. There will be no toilet facilities at sessions.
  6. If you have not trained for some time, then take it easy to avoid injury.
  7. Do not shake hands or make any physical contact before, during or after the session.
  8. If you test positive for Covid-19 after a training session, then inform the club. The club will then inform people you have trained with so they can take appropriate action.

When are the sessions starting?

Senior sessions will be held on Tuesday in various locations (tba). We will be avoiding busy locations as much as possible and aim to minimise people having to take public transport to get there. No Thursday club sessions will be in place until further notice and no junior sessions will take place on Tuesdays until further notice.

Senior ‘track’ sessions will take place on Fridays at Churchill Playing Fields (on the fields until the track is re-opened). This is expected to start at 18:45.

Junior ‘track’ sessions will take place on Fridays at Churchill Playing Fields (on the fields until the track is re-opened). This is expected to start at 18:00. The session will last 30 mins and it is vital the junior athletes turn up on time to ensure maximum safety for everyone.

365 team ‘track’ sessions will take place on Fridays at Churchill Playing Fields (on the fields until the track is re-opened). This is expected to start at 18:00. The session will last 30 mins and it is vital the 365 athletes turn up on time to ensure maximum safety for everyone. Parents are responsible for following our guidelines and should remain a minimum of 2m apart when the sessions are in progress.
