NECAA Track & Field Championships

This year we had a cracking turn out for the North East Athletics Championships, which took place over two days at Gateshead Stadium (13 and 14 May).

Out of seven entries we bagged two golds, one silver and one bronze. Fantastic!

Saturday saw Paul Corrigan throwing discus (31.49) after a long break from this discipline. In the afternoon he competed in shot put, his more familiar event, coming fifth with a throw of 10.5m.

Dan Broderick qualified second in his heat for the u13 100m in 15 seconds dead. He finished sixth in the final in 15.02. Superb running. He then went onto win the high jump at 1m30 (PB) beating silver by a whopping 15cm!

A very nervous Simon Lyon ran his heart out in the men’s 1,500m, clocking 4 mins 24 against stiff competition. What a finish it was too!

Millie Train and Hannah Walker took gold and silver in the high jump with jumps of 1m14 and 1m08 respectively. Hannah also ran 16.09 in 100m. A PB!

Andy Gaham ran the 800m in 2mins04. Wowsers!

Sam Charlton took bronze in his debut race (3k). Well done Sam!

Loads of great pics on Karen Newton’s Flickr page.

We are so very proud of you all for representing Wallsend Harriers on such a prestigious stage.
