Track and field champions

They think it’s all over… it is now! Massive congratulations to Team Wallsend / Blyth for winning all four track and field meetings over the summer to become champions!

Huge thanks to all our officials, athletes and supporters. Bill and Elaine did a fantastic job with the results and Tommy and Margaret led the referees.

Here’s to next year. Let’s show them what we’re made of!

The Toby 2017

So right about now, a crack team of Wallsend Harriers will be leaving Segedunum – embarking on the 10th annual Toby for the wonderful St Oswald’s Hospice.

This year they’ll be covering approximately 188 miles (!!!) from Friday through Sunday – as they head along the Route 72 cycle path through Hexham, Haltwhistle, Brampton, and Carlisle until they reach Bowness-on-Solway before heading back and ending in Tynemouth.

We’d love as many of you to join in for the final few legs and help those weary legged legends end their journey on a high.

Keep your eyes peeled for updates via our social media channels and please feel free to send us your messages of encouragement too!

Of course, if you’d like to make a donation and haven’t done so already, please head over to our Just Giving page. We smashed £30,000 in total donations last year so we’d love to get as close to £35,000 as possible this year!

Tuesday training is a beach!

This coming Tuesday (the 25th July) our club session for both the seniors and juniors will be held at Seaton Sluice (aka ‘Gods country’ according to our chairman).

We’ll be meeting at the car park of the Butty Bus diner at 18:20, aiming for a 18:30 start. Directions are available below…

It’s never too early to get excited about x-country!

Yes it’s usually pretty muddy and sometimes a tad chilly but it’s soooo much fun. We did so well last season but we can do even better this season.

So get your spikes at the ready and get stuck in!

The jewels of June

Big congratulations to our awesome juniors, who finished second at the third NEYDL meet at the weekend (25th June). Hosted by us at Churchill Playing Fields it was a gorgeous day and a great atmosphere.

Full results are here.

Many thanks to Christine Stretesky for her invaluable help with the results. Also to all the officials for giving their time to make the day possible.

And well done to Simon Williams, team manager, all coaches and parents and of course the young athletes in team Wallsend and Gosforth, for putting in some great efforts to secure second place in a nail-biting finish!

Later on in the week our ladies put in a fantastic performance at the Anita Nott Memorial Race (see full race report on the website). And our men did us proud at Tynedale 10k the following evening.

Dave Diston finished 36th out of 414 in 38:08. Andy Wigmore got ever closer to his sub 40 40 10k target with a frustrating 40:04. Mick Skeldon was less than 30 seconds behind in an excellent 40:32 and Ian Gowing finishing strong in 41:45.
