NEW CHAIRMAN ANNOUNCED FOR WALLSEND

billWallsend Harriers Committee would like to make the following announcement:

At the Club tonight, Kevin Payne reminded members of his wish to step down as Chairman as soon as a successor could be appointed. 

He was pleased to inform members present that the committee had appointed Bill Todd to the role of Chairman of the Club with immediate effect. 

It was further announced that club secretary Jackie Garnett has also stepped down with immediate effect. The role will be filled by committed and experienced member Elaine Ashton (nee Liu), who has served on the committee for a number of years.

The Club would like to thank Kevin and Jackie for the enormous amount of work, time and dedication they have given to Wallsend Harriers in the last two and half years.

Bill said “I am delighted to take up the challenge of continuing Kevin’s work and moving the Club forward in the next stage of its growth.”

Torrential rain doesn’t dampen our Toby spirit!

13920817_10210012480965853_7339880707384389365_nA smaller than usual group of 12 hardy runners set off from Wallsend on Friday 19 August for Whitehaven to run the 140 mile C2C cycle route over three days in aid of St Oswald’s Hospice.  I don’t think any of us were prepared for the first eventful moment of the weekend as we headed towards Whitehaven – how many Harriers does it take to change a tyre?!  (The answer is three!)

Top Tim Nics the win! And speedy Sarah Robson, steals the glory!

club champsTim Nicholson takes home the Men’s Club Championships trophy for the first time posting a brilliant run of 35:11 around the 6-mile course. Tim held off strong challenges from Jack Armstrong, and the ever-improving Andy Wigmore. Sarah also takes home the club honours for the first time posting an excellent time of 21:13 around the 3.35 mile ladies route. Matty Summers posted the only time for the u16 with a 22:54.
