Anita was an active (and pretty outstanding by the sounds of it) member of Heaton Harriers who tragically lost her life in September 2006 whilst out on a training run. This women only run was dedicated to her name and is well supported every year.
The Weetslade Relay was the first relay event in the country where each is club is required to select teams of three, which must include at least one veteran and at least one lady.
Now in its eighth year and organised superbly by Claremont Road Runners, the scenic multi-terrain course in Lockey Park includes a hill at halfway. Oh, and it is a 30 metre climb. If you can see past the pain there are some spectacular views from that said hill. I remembered to have a look and they were definitely that.
Back at Monkton Stadium an enthusiastic band of Green and Golds and Whites ran, threw and jumped their hearts out. Wallsend/Blyth Harriers won the day with the exact same number of points as the last meeting, fighting off stiff competition from Richmond and Zetland and New Marske. We won by just three points (!!!) which just shows how important every single point is.
Apologies for the short notice but the Club Championships will NOT be taking place on Friday 16th June as previously scheduled. This is such an important event for the Club so we are looking to find a better date for everyone to ensure maximum turn out. Watch this space for further details.
As the Blaydon Race is taking place on Friday (9th June) there will be no club session on Thursday. The senior and junior track sessions on Friday are also cancelled.
For those ‘gannin’ along the Scotswood Road’ we will be meeting at the bottom of the Bigg Market near the church (same as last year), at 6.30pm for the traditional club photo.
The post-race debrief will again be at the Old George.
See you there!
