Track & Field #3 Morpeth

While Kyrgios and Djokovic battled it out in sweltering temperatures on Centre Court, a loyal and tenacious band of green and golds were braving the heatwave at Morpeth, in the third of four athletics meets in the Northern Track & Field league.

Wallsend & Blyth are currently fighting for survival in division one against the likes of big hitters Gateshead, Morpeth and North Shields Poly. I’m not going to lie to you, we’re struggling folks, despite the best efforts of our T&F stalwarts. We’re going to need to go all out in our last meet of the season at Middlesbrough on Saturday 6th August if we’re going to stay up. Please put it in your diaries/calendars if you’re available. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but just come and try one event, you never know, you might just end up loving it, or discovering a hidden talent. And if not, hey, you got a point for your club and we’ll love you for it! Iain Hall threw a massive 31 metres in the javelin on Sunday and Alex discovered she didn’t hate discus. Oh, and it turns out endurance Donna is an absolute bullet in a 4x100m relay!

A massive shout out to our Morpeth massive, who were:

Denver Stretesky, Tom Sursham, John Firby, Paul McAleer, Jimmy Hill, Iain Hall, Megan Pattinson, Lily Robson, Alex Ross, Christine Stretesky, Julie Richardson, Donna Thompson and Emily James. (Please let me know if I’ve missed anyone).

A huge thank-you to our officials Paddy, Julie C, Karl, Paul McAleer, Mick Skeldon and Paul Stretesky.
