Latest race round up – summer sensations!

Firstly, apologies this is a bit late coming. There have been so many Green and Gold achievements over the past couple of weeks I have really struggled to keep track of them all. So please forgive me if I’ve missed anyone and let me know if I have so I can make sure everyone is recognised and congratulated.

From the Summer Grand Prix series:

Tynedale 10k (June 27)

Dave Diston 38:08, Andy Wigmore 40:04, Mick Skeldon 40:32, Ian Gowing 41:45

Bridges of the Tyne (July 4)

Simon Lyon 30:19, Jack Armstrong 30:21, Joe Colligan 35:07, Dave Hall 35:33, Dave Collinson 37:12, Simon Williams, 37:12, Julie Collinson 40:04

Great North 10k – (July 9)

Dave Diston 38:49, Joe Colligan 42:47, Keith O’ Donnell 42:49, Sam Proud 45:01, Mish Margison 54:35. Stars of the future in the Toddler Dash were Matthew and Isaac O’Donnell and our little cracker Raffa.

Track and Field (3) – (July 9)

Despite missing some regulars we ran, jumped and threw our way to victory again (even without my shot put contribution!)! Thanks to Donna Thompson, Sarah Robson, Sarah Graham, Erin Prior, Julie Williams, Kris Stobbs, Denver Stretesky, Andy Graham, Simon Lyon, Joe Collins, Paul Corrigan and Paddy. And not forgetting our fantastic comrades at Blyth.

Sunderland 5k – (July 13)

This one’s a great, fast course around Silksworth Sports complex so it was a bit disappointing not to see more of us there. It’s a great PB course, popular with club runners and a competitive but supportive atmosphere. I would highly recommend it. I had this one in my sights for a sub 21 minute 5k but I just wasn’t ready for it in the end (21:28). I still really enjoyed it though. My comrades however, had some fantastic performances:

Andy Graham 16:43, Andy Wigmore 19:32, Joe Colligan 20:31, Dave Hall 20:32 and Sarah Robson 19:44!

Juniors

Well done to all the Wallsend Juniors who took part in the NEYDL on July 16th. Lots of great performances and PBs and an absolute credit to the club.

Triathlons, duathlons, Ironmans and other crazy antics!

So Joe Collins went and won the Washington Sprint Triathlon! On 16th July Keith O’Donnell and Victoria Erikson completed the Woodhorn Olympic Triathlon and Mish took part in the Woodhorn Sprint Triathlon. Well done guys.

Julie Collinson was third in her age group at Cleveland Steelman.

Kris Stobbs got a PB at Southport half marathon in a belting time of 1hr22.

Our Queen of the Ironman Leanne Lewis blasted round Bolton from swim to bike to run (just a marathon though!) in 14hrs25! Can you imagine swimming, cycling and running non stop for more than 14 hours?!?! I just can’t get my head round it. It’s phenomenal. Leanne we salute you you crazy, amazing, hard core woman!

And the month isn’t even over yet! Please do let me know of any achievements I may have missed. If anyone would like to do a little write up of a particular event, they are more than welcome to submit an article for the website. It’s great to hear from other people and it’s so inspiring to read about other challenges.

Do check the gallery page for up to date photos. If you have any pics that you’d like to share it would be great if you could upload them onto our Flickr page wallsendharriers_1920. The password is on the Members page of the website.

That’s all for now.
