DELIGHT AT DENE – HARRIER LADIES CLINCH SECOND PLACE

Over 400 women runners packed onto Armstrong Bridge over Jesmond Dene on Monday (26th June) to run their socks off in memory of Anita Nott.

Anita was an active (and pretty outstanding by the sounds of it) member of Heaton Harriers who tragically lost her life in September 2006 whilst out on a training run. This women only run was dedicated to her name and is well supported every year.

There’s always a great atmosphere and it’s a pretty (pretty hilly that is!) 5k course around Jesmond Dene. It involves steps, tunnels, bridges and plenty of foliage. So not one for a PB but great training and it was a perfect evening weather wise.

It’s been a while since we were there in full force but this year we had plenty of A-listers to fly the flag and my word they did! With strong competition from the likes of Gateshead and Morpeth our girls came home with the second team prize!

Erin Prior, who has only recently begun to make an appearance as a senior in races, just pipped our sensational Sarah to the post as first Wallsend lady in an awesome 20.57. Sarah was right behind her in 20.59. Fantastic running ladies. Elaine made up the third member of the winning team and also bagged herself third a v35 prize. How’s about that everyone?!!

Donna Thompson is getting stronger by the race, coming in fourth v40 in a brilliant 21.50.

I was chuffed to finally break 23 mins and came in sixth v35 in 22.30 (I’m putting it down to having a x country season under my belt).

Our Julies (Williams and Collinson) did us proud (23.56 and 25.50) and Christine made up our magnificent eight with a sterling debut of 27.17.

Thanks to our gorgeous supporters and to Heaton Harriers for another well organised event (we especially love getting a chocolate bar at the end).

Here’s to a first place victory next year ladies!!!
