Kings of the Castle

alnwick menAnd so it was, on March 4th, against the historic backdrop of Alnwick Castle that the mighty Green and Golds were glorious once again.

This season’s x-country has been a veritable mud fest; a rollercoaster of victories, disappointments, lost shoes and revealing kit (you know who you!)

The men came out in droves and embraced the many challenges before them, at Wrekenton, Peterlee, Herrington, Druridge Bay and Alnwick. A force to be reckoned with and their numbers paid dividends as they surged to the top of division two and back into division one, where they absolutely belong.

The women put in a valiant effort all season and secured an honorable fifth place in division two. With a few more to boost team numbers, surely we have to be in with a chance of promotion next season?

It was an emotional day. Thoughts of our inspirational Kayleigh courageously battling on her road to recovery spurred us all on. And our golden (and green) couple Becki and Harry donned their Wallsend spikes for the last time (for now at least we hope). Fastest male and female (for us) on the day was no surprise and a fitting end to one magnificent journey with Wallsend Harriers. It is an understatement to say they will be missed. Thank-you you gorgeous pair for being such an integral part of this club. For giving it your all and always with big smiles and encouragement to others. You are both the epitome of what this club is all about.

I won’t list everyone who ran on the day, you can see them all on the gallery page and the full results are here, but instead will thank each and every person who played their part during the season, including supporters. Personally I have enjoyed it more than I ever thought I would. I’ve found my ‘thing’ and fully intend to throw myself into it next season. I can’t wait for it to start all over again. If you haven’t tried it yet, maybe it’s your ‘thing’ too. Please give it a go and join us in September. You won’t regret it.
