I arrived at the Pier car park in South Shields to be greeted by four fellow Wallsend Harriers Tony, Jeanette, Mick and Lyndsey. So this was the green and gold contingent for the Sunderland Strollers’ Pier to Pier race. Small but select. The sun was shining. This was going to be hot.
Mark Summers completed his fifth (hilly) half marathon in Tynedale (the latest of 12 he hopes to complete this year) in an impressive 1:48:42. Well done Mark!
Our Green and Gold jewel Julie Collinson celebrated her 50th (I know, I didn’t believe it either) birthday by completing Ironman 70.3 Barcelona.
The second Summer Grand Prix of the season takes place on Tuesday (24th May) when we will be trying out a new 5k course at the Rising Sun Country Park. Meet in ASDA CAR PARK AT 6.15pm.
We need as many people as possible running so please get there if you can and if you have a barcode please bring it.
It was muggy, there was a long hill and I’d never attempted it before. In fact, I worked out it had been almost three years since I had run a 10k race. It used to be my best distance but since embarking upon my nearby parkrun I’ve been all about the 5k. The thought of running just over six miles hard was quite daunting.
Luckily I had my Green and Gold contingent by my side (and scattered about the course supporting). A healthy turn out of 22 Wallsend Harriers made their way to the start line.
The results of the 2016 Gordon Smith Relays (senior race) are here.
The Junior Fun Run results are here.
What a fantastic night for the memory of a fantastic man, Wallsend Harriers former chairman Gordon Smith.
And here we go again. It was time for the return of Blyth and Wallsend to the northern track and field league; this time bigger and better than ever. In case you somehow missed the news, we were champions of division 3E last season, victors, the biggest fish in our little pond.
We achieved what had not been done in the club’s athletics history and secured promotion to division 2E of the league. So this year we find ourselves facing off against some serious competition.
