Toby with a Twist – results

This years “Toby” event, which raises vital funds for St Oswalds Hospice, unfortunately had to be cancelled.

It was such a difficult decision that Kev and Dave had to make in cancelling our annual 188mile event. They did decide that it would be a good idea to do a virtual Toby.
After making such a tough choice, Julie C and Jen B thought it would be a great idea to get the whole club involved – making teams of 3 runners/walkers, whilst having a bit of friendly club competition.

What a weekend its been. With old and young alike, getting together; running and walking whilst raising money for a brilliant cause.
A huge thank you to EVERYONE who put one foot in front of another. You are all amazing ??

Gordon Smith Relays – Results

Fastest Senior Lady – Jennifer Berry

Thanks to everyone who took part in our first (and hopefully last!) virtual Gordon Smith Relays, which saw over 400 competitors running in more than 130 teams!

It was great to see so many clubs taking part and we hope you enjoyed putting your club vests on and running as a team (even if it wasn’t in the conventional manner). We’ve certainly found these sorts of challenges a source of motivation and a much craved way to connect during these tough times.

Most importantly we thank everyone (from the bottom of our hearts) for their generous donations to a charity very close to our heart – St Oswald’s Hospice. At time of writing the total has exceeded all our expectations and stands at a whopping £1,200. There’s still time to donate if you ran and would like to do your bit to help provide palliative care to adults, young people and children in the North East of England. Any donation, big or small, would be much appreciated. The link is here.

It was a hot old week but there was some cracking times. Well done everyone! Headlines are:

For the love of Lambton and thereafter…

And so it was Lambton where we had our final x-country outing of what became a season like no other. X-country has a reputation for tenacity and determination, battling and braving the elements, always on at all costs. But 2019/20 threw more at us than we bargained for. First the storms and floods and then the coronavirus. Mother Nature fighting back perhaps?

I think most of us knew this would be our last chance to run as a club for a while but I was still naïve as to the enormity of what would unfold. Not only the last of the x-countries but the start of race after race being postponed, cancelled or rescheduled, including our own Terry O’Gara Memorial 5k.

So this was our last chance to show everyone what Wallsend is made of. The turn out of Green and Golds was phenomenal (29 in total) and so was the camaraderie and gusto. As expected, the overall numbers were down, providing the perfect opportunity to score some vital points.

Super Saturday!

Finally, a weekend without a storm, or storm-related car-parking implications! Us green and golds were chomping at the bit to get back out at a Harrier league x-country. The sun was out at Alnwick (as was the wind unfortunately) and we had some secret weapons up our sleeve!
