For the love of Lambton and thereafter…

And so it was Lambton where we had our final x-country outing of what became a season like no other. X-country has a reputation for tenacity and determination, battling and braving the elements, always on at all costs. But 2019/20 threw more at us than we bargained for. First the storms and floods and then the coronavirus. Mother Nature fighting back perhaps?

I think most of us knew this would be our last chance to run as a club for a while but I was still naïve as to the enormity of what would unfold. Not only the last of the x-countries but the start of race after race being postponed, cancelled or rescheduled, including our own Terry O’Gara Memorial 5k.

So this was our last chance to show everyone what Wallsend is made of. The turn out of Green and Golds was phenomenal (29 in total) and so was the camaraderie and gusto. As expected, the overall numbers were down, providing the perfect opportunity to score some vital points.

Club activity suspended; Covid-19 statement

Following on from this afternoon’s advice from the government, we, the committee, have decided to suspend all club activities and events until further notice.

We have a duty of care to you, our members, as well as thinking about the health and safety of our families and the wider community.

Therefore all club sessions are cancelled with immediate effect.

Training plans will be available from group leaders for those still wishing to train by themselves.

The last Winter Grand Prix session tomorrow night (Tuesday 17 March) is also cancelled.

The AGM on Thursday 19 March is postponed and we will look at rescheduling this later in the year.

Both our club races, the Terry O’Gara 5k due to take place on 26 April and the Gordon Smith Relays due to take place on 13 May, are also postponed.  We will look at suitable new dates and announce the new dates in due course.

We will continue to monitor the situation and update you by email and across our social media sites as the government advice changes.

Remember, people need people, even if over the coming weeks and months, we have to do this at a distance.

Thank you,

On behalf of the committee

Super Saturday!

Finally, a weekend without a storm, or storm-related car-parking implications! Us green and golds were chomping at the bit to get back out at a Harrier league x-country. The sun was out at Alnwick (as was the wind unfortunately) and we had some secret weapons up our sleeve!

Championship weekend

Our Wallsend Juniors retained their Championship status in the Blyth Sportshall NOTAN Series for the third year in a row!

It was great to see such a fantastic turn out from our young athletes.

Kasper Pearson was the only child to receive a Grade 1 and broke records in the standing long jump and push throw! There were lots of new faces too, which was wonderful to see and everyone gave it their all in every event. The events included a sprint, throw, endurance run, standing long jump and vertical throw.

Full results here.
