Darryl digs deep to win Doug Bramley Cup!

The famous Doug Bramley Cup saw the Wallsend Harriers out in force to tackle the new 5k course for the first time. Conditions were far from perfect registering a chilly 2C on the night, however, this did not put off the hardy core of dedicated athletes.

First across the line was our guest runner Tim Flannery closely followed by Darryl Roe who smashed his predicted time by over 2 mins and in third place was the ever improving Keith O’Donnell. We had some fantastic individual battles on the night and the new course looks set to be a big success. Fastest male athletes on the night were Simon Lyon, Sam Charlton and Olly Aird. Fastest females on the night were Sarah Robson, Kayleigh Dunn and Nina Wilkinson.

Full results here. Massive congratulations to everyone involved and thanks to everyone who helped out on the night.

Many thanks,

Paddy

Party party party!

xmas partyDon’t forget the Christmas Party and annual presentation evening takes place on Saturday December 10th at the Killingworth Club. It is on the evening of the North Eastern Cross Country Championships at Aykley Heads. It’s always great to go out in force in the day and celebrate in style in the evening so let’s end the year on a even greater high!

The party starts at 7pm. Raffle tickets are being sold and all proceeds go back to the club. If you haven’t bought any or taken a pack to sell please ask on a club night.

The draw for the guaranteed club London Marathon places will also take place on the night. There is still time to add your name if you were rejected from the official ballot this year.

Be there or be…somewhere not as good probably.

My Half Marathon Challenge – by Mark Summers

mark4It seemed a good idea at the time, a challenge borne out of an end of season slump in motivation. 2015 had started well, a 106 mile Cyclone sportive entry had me covering unheard bike miles together with healthy run distances. Half marathon, 10K and Blaydon Race PBs fell as my fitness benefited from my cross-training regime. A last minute injury forced me to withdraw from the event and led to a slump in motivation which lasted the best part of six months. I needed something to aim for but what?
