Our marathon marvels

While most of us were taking on the Terry 5k, half a dozen brave Wallsend souls were in the big smoke taking on one of the most gruelling but thrilling running challenges of their lives – The London Marathon.

There were first timers, seasoned pros, and even a televised engagement! Massive congratulations to Marie and John (who said ‘yes’ at mile 24). What a great moment and a first in Green and Gold history!

So take a moment to salute the superhuman six:

  • Marie Collinson (4hrs 56)
  • John Dodds (5hrs 10)
  • Joe Colligan (3hrs 21)
  • Alastair Willis ((3hrs 17)
  • Julie Williams (3hrs 48 PB!)
  • Gez Davidson (3hrs 15)

You are all inspirational.

Terry’s memory honoured in sixth annual race

Terry certainly made sure the sun shined down on us on a glorious April morning, when 234 runners turned out to race in his memory.

The former Wallsend chairman has been remembered in this way every year since 2012. A Green and Gold legend, motivational coach, inspirational athlete and a wonderful friend. He used to say “people need people” and there was nowhere that summed this up more than at West Allotment Country Park in North Tyneside on Sunday April 23rd. It was the Terry O’Gara Memorial 5k.

AGM reminder – Thurday 23rd February

The Annual General Meeting will take place on Thursday 23rd February at 7.30pm at Lindisfarne Social Club, West Street, Wallsend.

Here are the details and the minutes from last year’s meeting.

The Annual General Meeting is a chance for you to have your say about
your club.  All are welcome, however, members must have paid their subs for the year 2016/2017 to attend and vote at the meeting.

We hope to see you all there.

Green and Gold X Country Stars!

nemaa1A small but perfectly formed team took to the hills of the Rising Sun Country Park for the NEMAA Open X-Country Championships on Saturday 4th Feb.

They all put in a fantastic effort with Keith O’Donnell 45th, Kris Stobbs 23rd and 6th v35. Elaine was 15th and 4th v35 so I’m hoping that means I was 5th v35 in 16th position.

We’d have been contenders for a team prize if we’d had just one more vet on each team. Such a shame with a competition like this on our doorstep. Come on vets, get your spikes on and let’s show ’em how it’s done next time!

A special mention must go to our awesome juniors Erin Prior and Sam Charlton who put in inspiring performances at the Schools X-Country in Cumbria. Erin was 7th overall and 2nd from Northumberland and Sam was 12th overall and 6th from Northumberland.

We are very proud to have these great young athletes as part of the Green and Gold family.
