Green and golds galore at Rising Sun Park Run

parkrun
Remember, remember the 5th of November…

when Wallsend Harriers AC took over Rising Sun Park Run! And it was glorious.

The weather might not have been but it’s got considerably worse since so we were actually pretty lucky!

Over 250 runners, many of whom were donning a green and gold vest, took on the fast 5k course around the Rising Sun Country Park. There were PBs flying all over the place! Those who weren’t running could be seen marshaling, taking photos, handing out leaflets or generally helping out behind the scenes. Thanks to all who joined in, in whatever capacity. You did your club proud and you all get 50 points in the Winter Grand Prix series! Special thanks to Mick Day for organising.

Full results are on the Park Run website and there are lots of photos now on the gallery page of this website (thank-you Simon Williams!)

Morpeth to Newcastle

m6Before we get onto the half marathon we must start by congratulating the awesome fivesome who completed the full Morpeth to Newcastle adventure. Alastair Willis (3:14.41), Keith O’Donnell (3:15.42), Steve Mallam (3:44), Mark Richardson and Andy Clark (5:09).

Our Ironman Leanne has kindly written her account of the half…

There was definitely a relaxed feeling emanating from the Wallsend contingent at the start of the ‘North Tyneside to Newcastle’ half marathon on Sunday, certainly for me, not the pre – race nerves I have experienced in other races.

Rising Sun Parkrun – Wallsend takeover – Sat 5th November.

Hello all Wallsend Harriers!

I am pleased to advise that Wallsend Harriers have been permitted by the Rising Sun Parkrun organisers (our very own Mick and Lyndsey Day!) to do a “takeover” of this now well-established weekly event which takes place on our doorstep in the beautiful Rising Sun Country Park!

For this to be a success, we will need our usual members’ co-operation and enthusiasm and I appeal to you all to look at giving up an hour or two of your time from 8.30 on Saturday 5th November to either run, marshall, or just help the core team in organising on the day. Families are also welcome to help out!

Roles which need to be filled are:

1. Pacers for 7, 8, 9 and 10 minute miling for those who are chasing times for the 5K of 21, 24, 27 and 30 minutes. (Anyone faster than 7min miling won’t need pacers!)
2. 16 X Marshalls to guide runners at selected corners around the course.
3. 2 X Timers at finish line
4. 2 X Barcode scanners
5. 2 X Leaflet giver-outers

This event is part of this season’s Winter Grand Prix and all who run or help out will get 50 points towards their overall score when Gary Lewis completes the race results spreadsheet.

All are encouraged to WEAR THEIR CLUB COLOURS to promote the “Green and Gold”!

So please, if you can take part, respond to this post with a comment to advise if you will be able to run or marshall on the day! Or just let us know at the club.

Kind regards

Bill Todd (on behalf of the committee)

Graham makes victorious come back at first WGP!

Well done to Graham Armstrong for taking maximum points after coming back from injury. Mark Summers took 2nd place with an excellent 20:32 just ahead of a fantastic run and new under 15 record holder Samuel Charlton, in a sensational time of 17:19. Well done Samuel. It wasn’t the only record of the night, Mark’s son Matty Summers, took more time off his under 13 time, posting 18:45. Cracking run Matty. Fastest male of the night was Simon Lyon with a 17:07, Simon’s better half Sarah Robson was the fastest female with 19:32. Well done both.

With two XC and a WGP down, and SIXTEEN races left to go, Erin Prior currently sits at the top, ahead of Oisian. Full results here.

Next race is the Wallsend take-over Park Run at Rising Sun Country Park on 5th November, you’ll gain a maximum 50 points whether you volunteer or run. Remember to wear your vest, hoodie, anything that will publicise Wallsend Harriers. See you then!
